The story of the saltworker and his salt pans began in Portorož in Roman times. From the beginning, the saltworkers recognized the beneficial effects of the salt pan mud and brine, and in the 13th century the Benedictine monks already employed a precise and well-established methodology using both natural elements for treating excess weight, dropsy, and rheumatism. In the 17th century, pilgrims healed themselves by smearing themselves with salt pan mud, drying the mud in the sun, and then bathing in brine. Today, the millennium-old tradition of the saltworker and his salt pans lives on at the Terme & Wellness Palace.

Portorož is a seaside town with a hundred-year-old spa tradition. In the very centre of the town close to the sea arose the Terme & Wellness LifeClass, unique in its use of five local natural medicinal elements: salt pan mud or fango, brine or “Acqua madre,” the maritime climate, sea water, and thermomineral water. Renovated at the beginning of 2006, the Terme & Wellness Palace offers a series of innovations:
- the completely renovated Thalasso Centre with new treatments and the revolutionary Aquablitz anti-cellulite therapy
- the new Ayurveda Centre offering an authentic Indian ambience with a holistic approach and various ayurvedic treatments carried out by professional ayurvedic therapisits under the supervision of an ayurveda doctor. All products employed are made from exclusively natural materials of the highest quality and produced according to authentic Indian recipes
- the Medical and Physiotherapy Centre introducing new services in the field of dermatology including minor cosmetic skin surgery, densitometry (bone mineral density test), and mesotherapy, which effectively removes stubborn cellulite
